As a little girl, Wendy remembers the fun she had at summer camp. She learned how to swim, and enjoyed hiking, outdoor sports, and campfire songs. But more importantly she learned what it was like to be independent.
The Hunter Foundation Summer Campership programs serves young girls ages 10-13, that tween age where they test thier independence and are just on the cusp of their teenage years. The foundation works with community-based organizations who work with families. These organizations refer girls who come from families who could not afford a residential summer camp program.
Our goal is to expose these girls to the great outdoors and to the joys of residential camping, sparking a positive and memorable experience that has a lasting impact on thier lives.
Girls enjoy many activities including horse back riding lessons, swimming, pond study, lake boating, hiking, sports, rock climbing, and more. Each cabin holds 10 girls and is lead by two counselors. The girls learn about each other and spend time together doing the various activities.
The cost per camper is approxiamtely $2,000 per camper and pays for:
- Camp Tuition (cabin accommodations and all meals)
- Horseback Riding Instruction
- Transportation to and from camp from each girl’s home city
- Team Wendy Camp Kits including T-shirts, toiletries, pajamas, sweat suits, and hair care products.
